Before the results were announced, we teased you with various questions about the poll – and we can now reveal the answers:

Many people guessed The Enemy of the World or The Web of Fear – both of which have recently been recovered and released on DVD – but the answer was Patrick Troughton’s final story, The War Games. In our 1998 poll, the story finished in 31st place, while in 2009 the story improved its placing to 29th. This time around, however, The War Games has been voted as the 12th best Doctor Who story of all time!

When we asked this question, most of you thought the answer might be David Tennant and Matt Smith – although some thought Tom Baker would be in with a shot. But, perhaps surprisingly, the answer is actually Jon Pertwee and Christopher Eccleston. They were also the two Doctors whose stories fared best in the survey overall. Pertwee’s stories averaged 7.32 out of 10 with DWM readers, while Eccleston’s managed an amazing 7.44 out of 10! Tom Baker, David Tennant, Patrick Troughton and Matt Smith also managed to average over 7 out of 10 with their respective eras.

TomMeanwhile, DWM readers also voted on their favourite Doctor – and the winner, with a convincing margin, was Tom Baker (Doctor Number Four), who celebrated his 80th birthday earlier in the year.
On receiving the award, a thrilled Tom Baker beamed, “Wow! Do you think this will advance my career?”
