Ursula Le Guin’s short story The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas has haunted me since I read it, which in turn was inspired by ideas posited by Dostoyevsky on utilitarianism – I really wanted to explore that. The Doctor tends to focus on the big picture, while Yaz is immediate and emotional, and focused on the individual.”
